Prime Minister Narendra Modi On August 26, will kick off a landmark event at Maruti Suzuki’s Hansalpur facility in Gujarat, introducing the company’s inaugural electric SUV, the e Vitara. This momentous occasion will mark the start of mass production for this eco-friendly vehicle, positioning India as a key player in the global electric vehicle (EV) landscape. The e Vitara, crafted entirely in India, is set to make waves internationally, with exports planned to over 100 nations, including advanced markets like Japan and Europe.

A Milestone for India’s EV Ambitions

The e Vitara represents a significant achievement for India’s “Make in India” initiative. Designed on a cutting-edge Heartect-e platform, this electric SUV is tailored for global appeal. Its sleek design, paired with advanced technology, makes it a formidable contender in the EV market. The vehicle boasts 18-inch alloy wheels, LED projector headlamps, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.1-inch digital driver display, a panoramic sunroof, a 10-way adjustable driver’s seat, and Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Safety is prioritized with seven airbags, while features like Suzuki Connect and adjustable rear seats enhance its premium appeal.

While the e Vitara made its debut at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 in New Delhi earlier this year, its Indian launch is slated for early 2026, where it will compete with rivals like the Hyundai Creta EV and MG ZS EV. Maruti Suzuki’s decision to prioritize exports before the domestic launch underscores its strategy to establish India as a global hub for EV manufacturing.

Boosting India’s Battery Ecosystem

During his two-day visit to Gujarat, PM Modi will also inaugurate a critical advancement in India’s clean energy journey at the TDS Lithium-Ion Battery Plant, a collaborative venture between Toshiba, Denso, and Suzuki. This facility will begin localized production of hybrid battery electrodes, a move that will ensure over 80% of EV battery components are manufactured domestically. This development strengthens India’s self-reliance in green technology and supports the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

The export of the e Vitara to over 100 countries reflects the country’s capability to produce world-class, eco-conscious vehicles that meet the demands of international markets.
