In the coming financial year, Tata Motors is ramping up its focus on petrol-based automobiles in the Indian market. This strategy aims to attract buyers who are looking for cost-effective choices and have moderate driving needs. By rolling out four fresh petrol variants, the company intends to provide a range of options spanning from entry-level to high-end categories, thereby broadening the reach of its top-selling vehicles.

1. Updated Version of the Tata Punch

The Tata Punch stands as Tata Motors’ most popular offering, currently equipped with a standard petrol powertrain. Experts predict that by October, this compact SUV will receive a significant redesign, featuring modernized front and rear styling elements like redesigned front fascias, updated radiator grilles, and stylish 16-inch rims. On the interior front, buyers can expect an advanced digital dashboard display to appeal to those who prioritize technology in their drives. Furthermore, the steering setup is likely to include a sporty two-spoke design with a flat lower section and a glowing emblem for added flair.

Powering the refreshed Punch will be the well-known 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol unit, delivering 87 horsepower and 115 Newton-meters of twisting force. There’s also an option for a dual-fuel setup that switches seamlessly between petrol and compressed natural gas (CNG). When operating on CNG, output reduces slightly to 72 horsepower and 103 Newton-meters. Transmission choices include a five-speed stick-shift for both fuel types, while the automated manual variant with five speeds will be exclusive to the petrol-only model.

2. Revival of the Iconic Tata Sierra

Early in the next calendar year, Tata Motors is gearing up to resurrect the legendary Tata Sierra as a completely redesigned model. Unlike previous launches, this iteration will introduce two exclusive petrol engines never before seen in the brand’s lineup.

For those seeking thrilling performance, a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline direct injection motor will be available, churning out 168 horsepower and 280 Newton-meters of torque. Complementing it is a milder 1.5-liter non-turbo version, designed for users who value better mileage and lower upfront costs. Both powerplants will pair with a six-speed manual gearbox, and the boosted engine is expected to offer an automatic transmission as well for smoother city commutes.

3. Petrol Upgrade for the Tata Harrier

Sometime between January and March, the spacious Tata Harrier SUV is slated to incorporate the same 1.5-liter turbo petrol engine mentioned earlier, boasting 168 horsepower and 280 Newton-meters of torque. This addition will come with flexible transmission selections, including a six-speed manual and an automatic option to suit various driving preferences.

This petrol variant is poised to boost the Harrier’s attractiveness through reduced purchase pricing and easier upkeep compared to diesel alternatives. It particularly targets urban drivers with limited budgets or infrequent road trips, making ownership more practical. Moreover, in cities like Delhi facing stricter emission rules or potential curbs on diesel vehicles, this shift could encourage hesitant buyers to opt for the Harrier without delay.

4. Extension to the Tata Safari Lineup

The versatile 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine, along with its corresponding gearbox choices, will also find its way into the larger Tata Safari during the same January-to-March timeframe. As a family-oriented three-row SUV available in six- or seven-seater configurations, questions linger about whether this engine’s output will adequately handle the vehicle’s size and weight, but it promises to open up new possibilities for petrol enthusiasts in the premium segment.
