Tata Motors is bringing back the legendary Sierra SUV in two exciting forms: an all-electric version launching by the end of this fiscal year, and an internal combustion engine (ICE) model arriving shortly after in early 2026. Showcased in its production-ready form at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, the Sierra has been generating buzz with test prototypes spotted on Indian roads. This revival promises a blend of nostalgia and cutting-edge technology, positioning the Sierra as a premium midsize SUV above the Curvv, with prices ranging from Rs. 13 lakh to Rs. 25 lakh (ex-showroom). Let’s explore the key highlights of this iconic comeback.

Striking Exterior Design

The new Tata Sierra boasts a bold and modern exterior that pays homage to its heritage while embracing contemporary styling. Up front, it features a wide horizontal grille flanked by sleek, sharp headlamp clusters and a connecting LED light bar, complemented by large air intakes in the bumper for a rugged yet refined look. At the rear, an upright tailgate houses a slim LED tail light strip, a dynamic spoiler, and a sculpted bumper that enhances its sporty profile. The blacked-out roof pairs perfectly with the panoramic sunroof, creating a floating roof effect that’s visually striking. Muscular wheel arches, flush door handles, a stretched wheelbase, steeply angled windshield, and tall pillars contribute to its imposing stance and aerodynamic efficiency.

Spacious and Modern Interior

Step inside, and the Sierra offers a roomy cabin designed for comfort and luxury. The interior layout emphasizes space with high-quality materials and thoughtful ergonomics. Key highlights include a massive 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system for seamless connectivity, a matching 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, and an additional 12.3-inch screen tilted toward the driver for quick access to controls. Other premium touches are a four-spoke multifunction steering wheel, powered and ventilated front seats, a 360-degree surround-view camera, and a comprehensive Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) package for enhanced safety and convenience. The overall setup feels tech-forward, making long drives enjoyable for families.

Powertrain Options: EV and ICE

Tata is offering versatility with two distinct powertrain lineups. The Sierra EV leads the charge, expected to deliver a real-world range exceeding 500 km on a single charge. It supports ultra-fast DC charging and advanced bidirectional features like Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) for powering external devices and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) for sharing energy with other EVs. Speculation points to a dual-motor all-wheel-drive configuration borrowed from the Harrier EV, complete with a lifetime battery warranty to build buyer confidence.

For traditional engine fans, the ICE Sierra will feature a fresh 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol unit churning out 168 horsepower and 280 Nm of torque, alongside the reliable 2.0-litre diesel engine producing 170 horsepower and 350 Nm. Both engines pair with six-speed manual or automatic transmissions, including drive modes for everyday cruising and terrain modes for off-road adventures. This setup ensures the ICE version delivers peppy performance and efficiency suited to Indian roads.

Subtle Differences Between EV and ICE

While the EV and ICE variants share the core design DNA, Tata has planned minor styling distinctions to differentiate them. The electric model might incorporate unique badging, aerodynamic tweaks, or charging port placements, but the overall silhouette remains consistent. This approach allows Tata to streamline production while catering to diverse preferences in the growing SUV market.

The Tata Sierra Revival Excites

The return of the Tata Sierra marks a significant moment for Indian automotive enthusiasts, combining the model’s timeless appeal with modern innovations. Whether you opt for the eco-friendly EV or the robust ICE powertrains, the Sierra promises superior safety, advanced features, and versatile driving dynamics. With its competitive pricing and premium positioning, it’s set to challenge established players in the midsize SUV segment. As testing continues and launch dates firm up, the Sierra is poised to become a bestseller, reigniting the passion for this classic nameplate among new generations of drivers.
