Bajaj Auto has made a bold move to keep the prices of its Pulsar NS400Z and Dominar 400 unchanged, despite the recent GST increase from 28% to 40% for motorcycles above 350 cc. This decision aligns with strategies adopted by brands like KTM and Triumph, offering significant relief to performance bike enthusiasts. By absorbing the tax hike, which could have added over Rs. 22,000 to the cost, Bajaj ensures that these models remain affordable and retain their strong value proposition.

Pricing and Value Proposition

The Pulsar NS400Z, known for its aggressive styling and feature-packed performance, continues to be priced at Rs. 1.92 lakh (ex-showroom). It remains one of the most cost-effective 400 cc motorcycles in India, appealing to riders seeking thrilling performance at an accessible price. Similarly, the Dominar 400, a favorite among touring enthusiasts, holds steady at Rs. 2.39 lakh (ex-showroom), despite a dip in its popularity in recent years. This pricing strategy makes both models highly competitive, especially during the festive season when demand for motorcycles surges.

Bajajโ€™s Commitment to Riders

Sumeet Narang, President of Marketing at Bajaj Auto, emphasized the companyโ€™s rider-centric approach, stating, โ€œThe Pulsar NS400Z delivers exhilarating performance, while the Dominar 400 is built for confident long-distance journeys. With the GST 2.0 increase, we chose to shield our customers from additional costs, ensuring these motorcycles remain exciting and affordable. This reflects Bajajโ€™s dedication to empowering riders with high-quality machines that donโ€™t break the bank.โ€

This move is particularly significant in the middleweight motorcycle segment, where price sensitivity is high due to the new tax structure. By maintaining current prices, Bajaj aims to sustain the momentum of its flagship offerings and attract new buyers looking for value-driven performance bikes.

Industry Context

Bajajโ€™s decision mirrors similar strategies by other manufacturers. For instance, Hero MotoCorp has also opted to keep prices steady for the Harley-Davidson X440. In contrast, Royal Enfield has reduced prices for its 350 cc lineup, including the Bullet, Classic, Hunter, and Meteor, but increased prices for its 450 cc and 650 cc models, such as the Scram 440, Guerrilla 450, Himalayan 450, and its flagship 650 cc bikes. Bajajโ€™s approach sets it apart, offering stability in a segment experiencing price fluctuations.
