Volkswagen and Skoda are gearing up to refresh their popular midsize SUVs, the Taigun and Kushaq, with updated versions spotted testing together on Indian roads. These revamped models are slated to hit showrooms by late 2025 or early 2026, signaling a synchronized effort by the Volkswagen-Skoda alliance to keep their offerings competitive in Indiaโ€™s bustling SUV market.

Volkswagen Taigun Facelift: Subtle Yet Impactful Updates

Since its debut in 2021, the Volkswagen Taigun has been a cornerstone for the brand in India. The facelifted version, recently seen in spy shots, retains its familiar silhouette but introduces refined design tweaks. Expect a refreshed front grille, redesigned bumpers, and updated headlamp detailing to give the SUV a sharper look. The connected LED tail lamps with their distinctive C-shaped design remain unchanged, as do the roof rails, side mirrors, and rear spoiler, preserving the Taigunโ€™s bold stance.

New alloy wheel designs and fresh color options are likely to add flair to the exterior. Inside, the Taigun is set to receive a revamped dashboard layout with premium materials and enhanced features. A major highlight could be the introduction of Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, autonomous emergency braking, and rear cross-traffic alert, elevating safety and convenience.

Skoda Kushaq Facelift: Premium Upgrades in Focus

The Skoda Kushaq facelift, spotted under heavy camouflage, hints at significant updates to its front and rear, particularly the bumpers, grille, and headlamps. The side profile remains largely unchanged, with test models showcasing stylish 17-inch black alloy wheels. New features like sequential turn indicators and a panoramic sunroof are expected to enhance its appeal.

The cabin is poised for a premium makeover, with upgraded upholstery, a redesigned center console, and a modernized dashboard. Skoda is likely to include a larger infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 360-degree camera system, connected car technology, ventilated front seats, six airbags as standard, and wireless phone charging, making the Kushaq a feature-rich contender.

Shared Platform and Powertrains

Both the Taigun and Kushaq facelifts will continue to utilize the MQB A0 IN platform, optimized for India with high localization to keep costs competitive. The powertrain lineup remains unchanged, offering two turbo-petrol engines:

  • A 1.0-litre unit producing 115 PS and 178 Nm of torque.
  • A 1.5-litre TSI engine delivering 150 PS and 250 Nm of torque.

Transmission options include a six-speed manual, a six-speed torque converter automatic, and a seven-speed DSG. Rumors suggest Volkswagen may introduce an eight-speed automatic later, further enhancing the driving experience.

Competitive Edge in the Midsize SUV Segment

The facelifted Taigun and Kushaq will take on a crowded field of rivals, including the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Honda Elevate, and the upcoming Renault-Nissan SUV duo. With refreshed designs, advanced features, and competitive powertrains, these SUVs aim to stand out in a segment where style, technology, and performance are key.

With ADAS, premium interiors, and versatile engine options, these SUVs are set to appeal to buyers seeking value and sophistication. As they prepare to launch by late 2025 or early 2026, both models are poised to strengthen Volkswagen and Skodaโ€™s foothold in Indiaโ€™s midsize SUV market.
