Yamaha Unveils the All-New Jog E Electric Scooter for City Riders in Japan

Jog E Electric Scooter

Yamaha has just rolled out its latest creation, the Jog E, a fully electric scooter designed specifically for the domestic market in Japan. This fresh model steps in to replace the older gasoline-powered Jog, which had to bow out because of tougher environmental rules cracking down on emissions. At first, you’ll only find this zippy little EV in major urban areas like Tokyo and Osaka, starting right after Christmas on December 25, 2025.

What Powers the Yamaha Jog E and How Far Can It Go?

The heart of this scooter comes from a clever collaboration in the Japanese two-wheeler world. It runs on the Honda Mobile Power Pack e:, a removable battery that’s part of a shared standard agreed upon by Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, and Kawasaki. This setup makes things super convenient because riders can quickly swap out a dead battery for a fully charged one at dedicated stations.

A separate company called Gachaco handles all the battery swapping operations. That means when you buy the Jog E, you’re just getting the scooter itself โ€“ you’ll have to sign up with Gachaco separately for the battery subscription service. Each Honda pack holds about 1.5 kWh of energy, and the Jog E uses just one of them.

With a single battery, you can expect around 53 kilometers of real-world range, which is plenty for daily commutes, errands, or cruising around town. No more worrying about running out of juice mid-trip, thanks to the easy swap system.

Under the seat, there’s an AC synchronous electric motor pumping out 1.7 kW of power (that’s roughly 2.3 horsepower) along with a hefty 90 Nm of instant torque. It’s smooth, quiet, and perfect for quick getaways in traffic.

Size, Weight, and Handling Specs That Make It a City Favorite

  • Length: 1,795 mm
  • Width: 680 mm
  • Height: 1,140 mm
  • Wheelbase: 1,300 mm
  • Ground clearance: 135 mm
  • Seat height: 740 mm (easy for most riders to plant their feet flat)
  • Total weight with battery: 93 kg (super light and easy to maneuver)

Up front, you’ve got 12-inch wheels with 90/90 tires, while the rear uses 10-inch wheels wrapped in 100/90 rubber. Stopping power comes from a front disc brake paired with a rear drum, plus a combined braking system for extra safety. Suspension is straightforward with telescopic forks at the front and twin shocks in the back โ€“ nothing fancy, but it soaks up city bumps just fine.

Clean Looks and Handy Everyday Features

The Jog E keeps things simple and stylish with a no-nonsense design that screams practicality. It’s available in two understated shades: Dark Gray Metallic and Light Gray.

Everything lights up with full LED tech โ€“ headlamp in a sharp polygonal shape, horizontal tail light with built-in indicators, and round mirrors for that classic scooter vibe. The flat floorboard gives you loads of space to carry shopping bags or parcels.

Practical touches include:

  • A small 500 ml front pocket for quick-grab items
  • USB Type-A port to charge your phone on the go
  • Big bag hook
  • Under-seat compartment for helmets or small stuff
  • Inverted LCD dashboard that’s easy to read, showing speed, battery level, and more
  • Three riding modes: Econ (for max range), Ready (balanced), and Speed (for a bit more pep)

How Much Does the Yamaha Jog E Cost?

Yamaha is keeping it wallet-friendly by pricing the scooter body at 159,500 Japanese Yen โ€“ that’s around 90,000 Indian Rupees or roughly 1,012 USD depending on current exchange rates. Remember, this price doesn’t include the battery โ€“ you’ll pay extra through your Gachaco subscription for unlimited swaps or whatever plan you choose.

If you’re in Japan and tired of gas prices or emission hassles, the Jog E looks like a smart, fun, and eco-friendly way to get around town without breaking the bank. It’s proof that big brands are teaming up to make electric mobility simple and accessible for everyone. Keep an eye out โ€“ this could be the start of more shared-battery EVs hitting the streets!
