The Mahindra XEV 9S just dropped and it’s the first proper 7-seater electric SUV from an Indian brand that doesn’t make you feel you’re paying for air. Launched in Bengaluru, it sits on the same INGLO platform as the XEV 9e and BE 6, but stretches longer, gives you a bigger wheelbase, and still costs roughly ₹2 lakh less than its 5-seater cousin. You get three battery choices – 59 kWh, 70 kWh, and 79 kWh – and six solid colours: Everest White, Ruby Velvet, Stealth Black, Desert Myst, Nebula Blue, and Midnight Black.

Boot space with third row folded is a usable 527 litres, plus a 150-litre frunk up front. Power ranges from 170 kW in the base 59 kWh to 210 kW in the top 79 kWh version. Fast charging is genuinely quick – 20% to 80% in about 20 minutes using 140-180 kW DC chargers.

Bookings open 14th January 2026
Test drives start 5th January 2026
First customer deliveries begin 23rd January 2026 onwards

Price band (ex-showroom): ₹19.95 lakh to ₹29.45 lakh for the fully loaded Pack Three Above

Pack One Above (59 kWh or 79 kWh) – The “I’m not cheap, I’m smart” variant

This is the cheapest way in India to buy a proper electric 7-seater that still feels premium.

  • Three 12.3-inch screens joined coast-to-coast (yes, even in the base model)
  • Snapdragon 8155 chip, built-in Amazon Alexa, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay
  • Always-connected 5G, pre-loaded OTT apps, remote AC, scheduled charging, geo-fencing – the full package
  • 6 speakers (4 + 2 tweeters), panoramic skyroof, illuminated Mahindra logo up front
  • LED everything, sequential turn indicators, start-up light animation
  • 6 airbags, Level-2 ADAS with 1 radar + 1 camera, 360° camera, blind view monitor, TPMS, driver drowsiness detection
  • Dual-zone AC, 6-way power driver seat, auto-folding mirrors, push-button start
  • 2nd row slides, reclines, 60:40 split
  • Single-pedal driving, multiple regen levels including Auto mode, Boost mode
  • Intelligent adaptive suspension, frequency-dependent dampers, 10 m turning circle
  • 18-inch aero wheels, 150 L lit frunk + 527 L boot
  • 20-min fast charging capability

If you just want a big, safe, fast, tech-loaded electric family hauler and don’t care about bragging rights, stop here. This variant alone kills most of the competition.

Pack Two (70 kWh or 79 kWh) – Where it starts feeling properly luxurious

Everything from Pack One + the good stuff:

  • New 70 kWh battery option with 180 kW (241 hp) and 380 Nm
  • 79 kWh now supports 160 kW DC charging
  • 16-speaker Harman Kardon system with Dolby Atmos (Mahindra calls it Sonic Studio – sounds insane)
  • Ventilated front seats, leatherette everywhere, soft-touch dash
  • Wireless phone charger, NFC key (use your phone or card)
  • Capacitive touch controls on centre console
  • Cruise control, front parking sensors, upgraded 6-airbag logic
  • Premium body cladding that looks expensive

Pack Three (79 kWh only) – The “I want everything” territory

Now it gets stupidly loaded:

  • 210 kW (282 hp) in the 79 kWh, or you can choose detuned 170 kW if you want
  • Level 2+ ADAS – 5 radars + 1 camera, auto lane change, lane centering, front/rear cross-traffic alert, emergency steering
  • Massive augmented-reality head-up display (VisionX)
  • Driver eye monitoring, live 360° recording from car cameras (Secure360)
  • Dual wireless chargers (front + rear), ventilated second-row seats
  • Boss mode (rear passenger controls front seat), 6-way power passenger seat
  • 16-million colour ambient lighting, night-trail carpet illumination, cornering lamps, auto high-beam
  • Auto Park Assist, built-in video calling, dashcam functionality
  • Laminated acoustic glass, air purifier with AQI display

Pack Three Above+ – The ultimate flex (still 79 kWh)

Only additions over Pack Three:

  • Steering wheel with capacitive touch controls
  • Upgraded Snapdragon 8295 chipset
  • 24 GB RAM + 128 GB storage (basically a rolling gaming PC)

Final Real-Man Verdict

The Mahindra XEV 9S Pack One Above is probably the biggest bang-for-buck electric 7-seater on the planet right now. Pack Two adds the luxury most people actually want. Pack Three and Three+ are for those who refuse to compromise on anything.

Mark your calendar:
5 Jan 2026 – Go smash a test drive
14 Jan 2026 – Book it before prices jump
23 Jan 2026 onwards – Start showing off to the neighbours.
