The Indian automotive scene is buzzing with anticipation as November 2025 approaches, bringing two significant SUV introductions that promise to shake up the segment. Tata Motors is preparing to revive a classic with its latest midsize offering, the Sierra, while Mahindra is ready to electrify the roads with its groundbreaking three-row electric vehicle, the XEV 9S. These global premieres are crucial for each company’s strategy in the ever-competitive SUV arena.

Tata Sierra’s Comeback: A Blend of Heritage and Modernity

Mark your calendars for November 25, when Tata will officially relaunch the Sierra, breathing new life into a legendary badge that has been synonymous with the brand’s history for years. This SUV will slot neatly between the Curvv and Harrier models in Tata’s portfolio, available in both traditional engine and fully electric variants. The combustion-engine edition is slated to hit showrooms first, with the battery-powered alternative arriving shortly after.

Under the hood, the Sierra will feature Tata’s innovative 1.5-liter engine lineup, encompassing a standard petrol option, a boosted turbo-petrol variant, and a diesel choice. The turbocharged petrol is projected to deliver approximately 168 horsepower and 280 Newton-meters of torque, paired with either a six-speed manual gearbox or an automatic transmission for versatile driving experiences.

As for the electric iteration, it is anticipated to borrow its underpinnings from the Harrier EV, offering dual battery configurations. The more substantial battery could provide an impressive travel distance of more than 500 kilometers per charge. Expect enhancements like rapid charging support, the ability to charge other devices, and a comprehensive suite of features to attract diverse buyers.

Mahindra XEV 9S: Pioneering Electric Family Mobility

On November 27, during Mahindra’s electrifying ‘Scream Electric’ showcase in Bengaluru, the XEV 9S will take center stage as the company’s inaugural all-electric SUV with seating for three rows. Engineered on the specialized INGLO modular architecture, this model is conceived purely as an EV from inception, enabling a spacious cabin with a level floor and adaptable seating arrangements, unlike adapted fossil-fuel vehicles.

Previews have showcased distinctive styling elements, including seamless LED lighting strips across the front and rear, the refreshed Twin Peaks emblem, a expansive glass roof, and prominent XEV 9S badging at the back. The interior is poised to impress with a multi-display cockpit setup, luxurious materials, cutting-edge driver assistance systems, and adjustable powered seating. Multiple battery sizes are on the cards, potentially delivering a range surpassing 500 kilometers.

Drawing inspiration from the XUV.e8 prototype revealed over three years prior, the XEV 9S also shares design cues with the upcoming refreshed XUV 700, expected in the initial months of 2026.

These launches highlight how Tata and Mahindra are positioning themselves to meet the growing demand for versatile, efficient, and tech-laden SUVs in India. With a focus on innovation, sustainability, and consumer needs, both vehicles are set to influence market trends and intensify rivalry among domestic players. As the month unfolds, auto enthusiasts can look forward to detailed specifications and pricing that will further define their appeal.
