The midsize SUV segment in India is gearing up for a thrilling transformation, with automakers unveiling fresh models and revamping existing ones. Several highly anticipated SUVs have been caught testing on Indian roads, hinting at their imminent arrival. Hereโ€™s a detailed look at five upcoming midsize SUVs that promise to redefine the market with innovative designs, advanced features, and powerful performance.

1. Next-Generation Kia Seltos

Kia is set to elevate its popular Seltos with a complete overhaul, targeting both Indian and international markets. Recently spotted undergoing trials under heavy camouflage, the new Seltos is slated for a grand unveiling early next year. The SUV will sport a bold new look, featuring vertically aligned LED daytime running lights, a redesigned front grille, and a sleek new bumper. The rear design is also expected to receive a modern makeover. Powertrain options are likely to include the current engines, with the addition of an eco-friendly strong hybrid system to cater to the growing demand for sustainable mobility.

2. Third-Gen Renault Duster

The Renault Duster, a name synonymous with rugged reliability, is making a comeback in its third-generation avatar. Spotted multiple times during test runs, this SUV is poised to hit the market early next year. Built on the versatile CMF-B platform, the new Duster will feature a design closely aligned with its global counterpart, with subtle tweaks for Indian preferences. It will rely solely on petrol power, likely powered by a 1.3-litre turbocharged engine delivering 154 bhp and 250 Nm of torque. A strong hybrid variant is also in the pipeline, expected to arrive later to boost its appeal.

3. Renault Boreal 7-Seater SUV

Renault is expanding its SUV lineup with a brand-new three-row model, tentatively named Boreal, expected to launch in the latter half of 2026. Recently seen testing in India, this 7-seater SUV will share the CMF-B platform with the Duster but will offer a longer wheelbase for enhanced space and comfort. The Boreal is set to feature a distinct design and will likely be powered by the same 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine as the Duster, producing 154 bhp. Additionally, Renault is exploring a 1.6-litre strong hybrid powertrain with 155 bhp to cater to eco-conscious buyers.

4. Nissanโ€™s Creta-Challenging SUV

Nissan is preparing to enter the competitive midsize SUV segment with a new model that shares its underpinnings with the Renault Duster. Spotted testing under heavy disguise, this SUV is expected to debut around mid-2026. While it will utilize the same CMF-B platform and powertrain options as the Duster, Nissanโ€™s offering will boast a unique design language, drawing inspiration from a teaser image released by the brand last year. The interior is expected to mirror the Dusterโ€™s feature set but with subtle tweaks to reflect Nissanโ€™s signature style.

This highly anticipated SUV will be available in both electric (EV) and internal combustion engine (ICE) variants. The Sierra EV is likely to launch first, potentially within the next few months, followed by the ICE version in early 2026. The electric model may share battery packs with the Harrier EV, offering 65 kWh and 75 kWh options for impressive range and performance. The ICE Sierra is expected to feature a new 1.5-litre tGDi petrol engine alongside the proven 2.0-litre turbo diesel, ensuring versatility for different buyer preferences.
