Genesis G90 Owners in America Hit with Bizarre Recall: Shiny Silver Paint Makes the Car Slam on Brakes by Itself

Genesis G90 If you thought the weirdest thing that could go wrong with a $100,000 luxury sedan was a software glitch, think again. Genesis just discovered that the ultra-fancy Savile Silver paint on some G90 flagships is so metallic and reflective that it literally confuses the carโ€™s own radar sensors into thinking a truck just teleported into the next lane. Result? The car panic-brakes at highway speed for absolutely no reason.

According to the official recall filed with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, only 483 Genesis G90 sedans (model years 2023โ€“2026) painted in Savile Silver are affected. Owners have reported at least 11 scary incidents where the car suddenly jammed on the brakes while cruising on the freeway with Highway Driving Assist turned on. Thankfully, nobody has been hurt and no crashes have happened โ€“

After months of head-scratching and pulling cars back to the lab, engineers finally figured out the culprit: tiny aluminium flakes in that gorgeous silver paint were bouncing the corner radar signals straight back into the sensor after the waves passed through the plastic bumper. The carโ€™s brain interpreted the reflection as โ€œholy crap, something just appeared right beside meโ€ and slammed the brakes without warning.

Genesis says the problem only shows up when:

  • The car is painted Savile Silver
  • Highway Driving Assist + Lane Change Assist are active
  • Or when driving slower than about 12 mph

What Genesis Is Doing About It

The Korean luxury brand has told every owner of a Savile Silver G90 in the United States to immediately turn off Highway Driving Assist until the fix is done. The permanent solution is surprisingly old-school: owners need to bring the car to a Genesis dealer, where technicians will swap the front bumper beam for a newly designed one that blocks radar waves instead of letting them sneak through and bounce off the paint.

Best part? The repair is 100 % free, even if your warranty has expired, and Genesis will cover towing or any other costs you run up because of this mess.

On top of that, Genesis quietly stopped building any new Savile Silver G90s last month (November 2025). The colour will come back later once they change the manufacturing process so this never happens again.

Good News for Future Indian Buyers

If youโ€™re waiting for Genesis to finally launch in India (which is now confirmed), relax โ€“ the company has made it clear that no other model or colour anywhere in the world has this problem. Only the U.S.-spec 2023โ€“2026 G90 in Savile Silver is affected, and every single one is getting fixed before things get worse.
