Kawasaki has dramatically lowered the prices of its versatile dual-sport motorcycles, the KLX230 and the track-focused KLX230R S, making them more affordable for enthusiasts. The KLX230 now boasts an ex-showroom price of Rs. 1.84 lakh, down by Rs. 16,000, while the off-road-only KLX230R S is priced at Rs. 1.79 lakh after a Rs. 15,000 cut. These price drops come with a reduced GST rate of 18%, compared to the previous 28%, thanks to localized manufacturing in India.

When it debuted in India last year, the KLX230 carried a steep price tag of Rs. 3.30 lakh, which made many potential buyers hesitate. However, Kawasakiโ€™s strategic move to produce the bike locally has slashed its cost by over Rs. 1.3 lakh, positioning it as a strong contender in the dual-sport segment.

Updated Features and Design

The KLX230 retains its rugged charm with a few tweaks. It now features slightly reduced suspension travel at both ends, a single-channel ABS system (replacing the earlier dual-channel setup), and updated graphics for a fresh look. The bikeโ€™s core remains its reliable 233 cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine, delivering 18.1 horsepower and 18.3 Nm of torque, paired with a smooth six-speed gearbox.

The suspension setup includes telescopic forks up front and a linked monoshock at the rear, ensuring a balanced ride on varied terrains. Braking is handled by disc brakes on both wheels, offering confident stopping power. The KLX230 rolls on wire-spoked wheelsโ€”21 inches at the front and 18 inches at the rearโ€”perfect for tackling both trails and roads.

Its minimalist design emphasizes functionality, with a sleek fairing, a high-positioned front fender, and a compact tail. The long, flat seat, set at 880 mm, supports dynamic riding positions, ideal for off-road adventures. Weighing just 139 kg, the KLX230 is agile and easy to handle, available in two striking color options in India.

KLX230R S: Built for the Trails

The KLX230R S is Kawasakiโ€™s trail-ready beast, designed exclusively for off-road use and offered in a bold Lime Green finish. Itโ€™s not street-legal but shines on rugged terrain with a lightweight build, 270 mm ground clearance, and a 900 mm seat height. The bike features 37 mm front forks with 220 mm travel and a Uni-Trak rear shock with 223 mm travel and adjustable preload, ensuring excellent control on rough trails.

Equipped with a sturdy steel perimeter frame and knobby tires on 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoke wheels, the KLX230R S is built for durability and grip.

Competitive Edge

With this significant price reduction, Kawasaki has positioned the KLX230 as a direct rival to the Hero Xpulse 210, while also challenging pricier options like the KTM 250 Adventure and Suzuki V-Strom 250. The combination of affordability, robust performance, and off-road capability makes the KLX230 an attractive choice for adventure seekers.
