Mahindra just dropped the hammer. After the BE 6 and XEV 9e literally flew off the shelves (30,000+ units sold in just seven months), the company is now in absolute attack mode. Theyโre not playing small anymore โ they want to hit 7,000 electric vehicles sold every single month real soon, and theyโre dead serious about it.
Right now, their Chakan plant can roll out 5,000 Born Electric vehicles per month, but Mahindra is pumping steroids into production. By March 2026, the same factory will be capable of spitting out 10,000 units a month (thatโs 1.2 lakh units a year!). And guess what? Theyโre confident that almost 90% of whatever they build will get sold โ thatโs how crazy the demand is.
Rakesh Jejurikar, the big boss of Mahindraโs auto division, straight-up told the media: โWeโre targeting 7,000 units a month very soon, and by March 2028, one out of every four Mahindras sold will be fully electric.โ Thatโs not some PR talk โ thatโs a war cry.
The Numbers Are Insane Already
- 30,000+ BE 6 and XEV 9e delivered in just 7 months
- These cars have together driven more than 200 million kilometres
- 60% of owners are getting over 500 km real-world city range under 100 km/h (yes, really!)
Export Plans? Oh Yeah, Global Domination Loadingโฆ
Mahindra isnโt stopping at India. Theyโre prepping right-hand-drive versions first for places like the UK, and then left-hand-drive models for Europe. The Euro-spec cars will get extra safety upgrades and tweaks to match foreign rules and taste.
Money? Theyโre Throwing Truckloads
Between 2021 and 2027, Mahindra is burning โน16,000 crore purely on electric vehicles. Out of that:
- โน4,500 crore went into BE 6 + XEV 9e
- Another โน2,000 crore just for the new XEV 9S
Thatโs the kind of cash that turns dreams into reality.
Final Conclusion
Mahindra came late to the EV party, but they showed up with a bazooka. While others are still figuring things out, Mahindra is already selling EVs like hot samosas, building bigger factories, and planning to conquer the world. 7,000 units a month is not a target โ itโs the next milestone before they go way, way bigger.
