Maruti Suzuki is preparing to launch its first-ever fully electric vehicle, the e Vitara, marking a bold step into the electric vehicle (EV) arena. This midsize electric SUV is poised to make waves with its impressive range, advanced features, and competitive pricing. Hereโ€™s everything you need to know about this exciting new offering.

Production and Global Ambitions

The e Vitaraโ€™s journey began at Maruti Suzukiโ€™s state-of-the-art Hansalpur plant in Gujarat, where production kicked off in a historic event led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This facility isnโ€™t just assembling the e Vitara; itโ€™s also producing Indiaโ€™s first homegrown lithium-ion cells and electrodes for hybrid vehicles, showcasing Maruti Suzukiโ€™s commitment to sustainable mobility. The initial batch of e Vitara units is ready for export to countries like the United Kingdom, Germany, Norway, France, and the Netherlands, positioning it as Indiaโ€™s most extensively exported electric vehicle to date.

Launch Timeline and Pricing

While the global rollout is underway, the Indian market launch is expected to happen before the end of the current calendar year. Maruti Suzuki is finalizing its preparations, including expanding its service network to 8,000 outlets by FY31 to support EV owners. The e Vitara is anticipated to start at approximately Rs. 18 lakh (ex-showroom), making it a strong contender against rivals like the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv EV, Harrier EV, and Mahindra XEV 9e.

Battery Options and Performance

The e Vitara will offer two battery packs sourced from BYD, featuring advanced LFP blade cell technology:

  • A 48.8 kWh battery paired with a 144 PS electric motor, delivering 192.5 Nm of torque.
  • A larger 61.1 kWh battery with a more powerful 174 PS motor, also producing 192.5 Nm of torque, and boasting a certified driving range exceeding 500 km on a single charge.

While international models feature an all-wheel-drive option, the India-spec e Vitara is expected to come with a front-wheel-drive configuration. With DC fast charging, the battery can reach 80% capacity from zero in roughly 50 minutes, ensuring minimal downtime for drivers.

Variants and Features

The e Vitara is likely to be available in three variantsโ€”Delta, Zeta, and Alphaโ€”offering a range of options for buyers. Built on the innovative Heartect-e platform, co-developed with Toyota, this electric SUV is loaded with cutting-edge features, including:

  • A 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system for seamless connectivity.
  • A 10.1-inch digital driverโ€™s display for clear, real-time information.
  • Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) for enhanced safety.
  • Seven airbags and an Electronic Stability Program (ESP) for robust protection.
  • A 360-degree camera and front/rear parking sensors for effortless maneuvering.
  • A 10-way power-adjustable driverโ€™s seat and ventilated front seats for comfort.
  • Wireless phone charging and a choice of ten vibrant exterior color options.
