The Maruti Suzuki Victoris, a brand-new midsize SUV built in India, has clinched an impressive 5-star safety rating in the latest Global NCAP crash tests. Scoring high in both adult and child safety, this SUV stands out as one of the safest vehicles from Indiaโ€™s biggest carmaker. With top-notch protection and a host of safety features, the Victoris is setting a new benchmark for family SUVs in India. Hereโ€™s a breakdown of its stellar performance.

Outstanding Adult Safety

In the adult occupant protection tests, the Victoris scored an incredible 33.72 out of 34 points. The SUV provided excellent protection for the driverโ€™s and passengerโ€™s head, neck, and knees, earning a โ€œgoodโ€ rating in these areas. The driverโ€™s chest protection was rated โ€œadequate,โ€ while the passengerโ€™s chest scored โ€œgood.โ€ The lower legs were well-protected, with only the driverโ€™s right tibia receiving an โ€œadequateโ€ rating. The vehicleโ€™s bodyshell and footwell remained stable, proving the SUV can handle severe crashes without compromising safety.

Top-Notch Child Safety

The Victoris also shone in child occupant protection, scoring 41.00 out of 49 points. For the tests, 18-month-old and 3-year-old dummies were placed in rear-facing Britax Dualfix + Vario Base child seats, secured with ISOFIX anchorages and a support leg. These seats offered full protection in both frontal and side impact tests, earning a perfect 24/24 score for dynamic testing and 12/12 for child restraint system (CRS) installation. This makes the Victoris a fantastic choice for families prioritizing child safety.

Strong Side Impact Performance

The Victoris excelled in side impact tests. In the movable deformable barrier test, it provided โ€œgoodโ€ protection for the head, abdomen, and pelvis, with the chest rated as โ€œadequate.โ€ In the side pole test, all body regions, including the head and chest, received โ€œgoodโ€ ratings. These results highlight the SUVโ€™s robust structure and ability to keep occupants safe in various crash scenarios.

Packed with Safety Features

The Victoris comes loaded with safety tech as standard. It includes Electronic Stability Control (ESC) to keep the vehicle steady, Seat Belt Reminders (SBRs) for all seats, and ISOFIX anchorages for secure child seat installation. Advanced features like Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) for city, highway, and pedestrian scenarios, along with Lane Assist and Speed Assist Systems, are also available. However, the absence of a passenger airbag cut-off switch means you canโ€™t install a rear-facing child seat in the front. On the plus side, the Victoris meets UN127 pedestrian safety standards, ensuring itโ€™s safer for those outside the vehicle too.

Its near-perfect crash test scores, solid build, and long list of safety features make it a top pick for families. Whether youโ€™re navigating city streets or hitting the highway, this midsize SUV offers peace of mind with its exceptional safety credentials. The Victoris proves that Indian-made vehicles can compete with the best in global safety standards.
