Renault India is gearing up to electrify its lineup with the upcoming Renault Kwid EV, recently spotted undergoing trials on Indian roads. This compact electric hatchback, which shares its roots with the globally popular Dacia Spring EV, is set to make a bold entry into the Indian market, likely by late 2026 or early 2027. With Renault expanding its portfolio, including the recent launches of the updated Triber and Kiger, the Kwid EV is part of a broader strategy to introduce three new models, including a five-seater midsize SUV and a seven-seater variant, possibly named Boreal.

Modern Exterior Design

The Kwid EV boasts a sleek and contemporary look. Its front end features a stylish grille paired with striking LED Daytime Running Lights and halogen headlamps for a sharp appearance. The Renault logo, likely the brandโ€™s updated emblem, adds a premium touch. The vehicleโ€™s squared wheel arches lend a robust stance, while the rear showcases Y-shaped tail lamp graphics and a dynamic bumper design, giving it a distinctive edge over its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart.

Tech-Savvy and Spacious Interior

Inside, the Kwid EV promises a modern cabin with a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system as its centerpiece, offering seamless connectivity. A seven-inch fully digital driverโ€™s display provides critical information at a glance, while a multi-function steering wheel enhances driver control. Designed for practicality, the EV offers a 35-liter front storage compartment and a 308-liter boot, making it a versatile choice for urban commuters.

Performance and Range

The Kwid EV is powered by an electric motor delivering either 44 horsepower or 64 horsepower, depending on the variant. Its 26.8 kWh battery pack supports a driving range exceeding 220 km, as per the WLTP cycle, ideal for city driving and short trips. Charging options include an 11 kW AC charger for home use or a 30 kW DC fast charger for quick top-ups. The inclusion of bi-directional charging further enhances its appeal, allowing the vehicle to power external devices.

Strategic Launch and Market Impact

Renaultโ€™s focus on electrification aligns with Indiaโ€™s push for sustainable mobility. The Kwid EV, with its compact size, modern features, and competitive range, is poised to capture the attention of budget-conscious buyers seeking an affordable electric vehicle. While it shares similarities with the Dacia Spring EV, the Kwid EV may also hint at updates for the ICE Kwidโ€™s facelift, potentially introducing refreshed styling and features.
