Tata Motorsโ premium hatchback, the Altroz, has solidified its reputation as one of Indiaโs safest cars by earning a stellar 5-star rating in the latest Bharat NCAP crash tests. Recently refreshed with a facelift, the Altroz scored an impressive 29.65 out of 32 points for adult occupant protection and 44.90 out of 49 points for child occupant protection, making it a standout in the mass-market segment.
Adult Occupant Protection
In the adult protection tests, the Altroz delivered near-perfect results. It scored 15.55 out of 16 in the frontal offset deformable barrier test, showcasing robust cabin integrity. The side impact movable barrier test yielded 14.11 out of 16 points, and the hatchback also passed the side pole impact evaluation with a stable structure and satisfactory safety readings. These results highlight Tataโs commitment to engineering vehicles with strong occupant safety systems.
Child Occupant Protection
The Altroz excelled in child safety assessments, using ISOFIX-mounted Joie i-Spin Safe i-SIZE child restraints for both 18-month-old and 3-year-old dummies. It achieved a near-flawless 23.90 out of 24 in dynamic crash testing, a perfect 12 out of 12 for child restraint system (CRS) installation, and 9 out of 13 in vehicle-specific assessments. The rearward-facing child seats performed exceptionally well in both frontal and side crash scenarios, reinforcing the carโs family-friendly safety credentials.
Safety Features as Standard
The Altroz comes equipped with an extensive array of safety features across its lineup. Standard equipment includes six airbagsโdual front, side, and curtain airbagsโfor comprehensive protection. The driverโs seatbelt features pre-tensioners and load limiters, while electronic stability control, pedestrian protection technology, and seatbelt reminders are included on all variants. For added flexibility, the front passenger airbag can be manually deactivated to safely accommodate child restraints.
Tested Variants and Applicability
The crash tests covered multiple Altroz variants, including the Pure CNG MT, CRTV S CNG MT, and Accomplished S DMT, with the test prototype weighing 1,474 kg. Bharat NCAP has confirmed that the 5-star safety rating applies to all fuel optionsโpetrol, diesel, and CNGโacross various trims, ensuring broad coverage for buyers.
