August 2025, Tata Motors recorded a total of 41,001 vehicle sales in the Indian market, reflecting a 7% decline compared to the 44,142 units sold in August 2024. Despite the year-on-year (YoY) drop, the company saw a 4% month-on-month (MoM) increase from July 2025โs figure of 39,521 units. This mixed performance highlights varied outcomes across Tataโs vehicle lineup, with some models shining while others struggled to maintain momentum.
Nexon: The Unshakable Leader
The Tata Nexon continues to dominate as the brandโs top-selling model, clocking 14,004 units in August 2025. This represents a robust 14% YoY growth from 12,289 units in August 2024 and a 9% MoM rise. The compact SUVโs strong demand underscores its popularity in a fiercely competitive segment, cementing its position as a customer favorite.
Punch: Facing Tough Competition
In contrast, the Tata Punch saw a significant downturn, with sales dropping to 10,704 units in August 2025. This marks a steep 32% YoY decline from 15,643 units sold in August 2024, though the MoM drop was minimal at 1%. The slump in Punchโs performance could be due to rising competition in the entry-level SUV category, where rivals are gaining ground.
Hatchbacks: A Tale of Two Stories
Tataโs hatchback offerings, the Tiago and Altroz, showed divergent trends. The Tiago recorded 5,250 units sold, achieving an 11% YoY growth from 4,733 units in August 2024. However, its MoM performance dipped by 6%. Meanwhile, the Altroz delivered an impressive 31% YoY surge, with 3,959 units sold compared to 3,031 units last year. Its MoM growth remained nearly flat, with a slight 1% increase, signaling steady demand.
Tigor and Curvv: Struggling to Find Footing
The Tigor compact sedan faced challenges, with sales falling to 805 units, a 30% YoY decline from 1,148 units in August 2024. It also saw a 17% MoM drop, indicating a tough period for the model. Similarly, the Tata Curvv, a coupe SUV, struggled significantly, with only 1,703 units soldโa 51% YoY plunge from 3,455 units. The model also declined 15% MoM, suggesting it has yet to resonate strongly with buyers.
Harrier and Safari: Big SUVs, Big Gains
Tataโs larger SUVs showed promising results. The Harrier emerged as a standout performer, with 3,087 units sold, reflecting a remarkable 63% YoY growth from 1,892 units in August 2024. It also posted a strong 39% MoM increase. The Safari, while recording 1,489 units and a 24% YoY decline from 1,951 units, bounced back with a 20% MoM gain, hinting at renewed interest in the model.

Looking Ahead: Festive Season Optimism
Despite the overall YoY sales dip, Tata Motorsโ 4% MoM growth signals potential recovery. With the festive season approaching and anticipated benefits from GST 2.0-related price reductions, the company is poised for a possible upswing in sales. Models like the Nexon, Altroz, and Harrier are likely to drive this momentum, while the Punch, Tigor, and Curvv may need strategic interventions to regain traction.
