Toyota has officially released the inaugural teaser for the highly anticipated Urban Cruiser BEV, marking its entry into India’s mainstream electric vehicle sector. This model will stand as Toyota’s premier electric offering for the mass market in the country, slotting in beneath the global bZ4X within the brand’s electric lineup. The vehicle shares its foundational platform with the forthcoming Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, highlighting the ongoing collaborative synergy between the two automotive giants.
Distinctive Styling for the Indian Market
The preview images reveal several design modifications specific to the Indian version. The front fascia showcases sleek LED headlamps accompanied by LED daytime running lights. Notably absent is the continuous LED light bar found on the international variant. A prominent ‘BEV’ insignia is positioned above the front fender, indicating the location of the charging port. The side profile bears a close resemblance to the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, confirming their shared lineage.

Collaborative Manufacturing and Platform Strategy
Toyota will utilize its strategic alliance with Suzuki for local production. The Urban Cruiser BEV will be assembled at Suzuki’s manufacturing plant in Gujarat, employing the shared Heartect e platform that also underpins the e Vitara. This common architecture ensures both SUVs will utilize identical components, battery systems, and layouts, enabling Toyota to optimize production expenses and accelerate its electric vehicle introduction in India.
Following the imminent launch of the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, Toyota’s electric SUV is anticipated to debut in the coming weeks.
Powertrain and Anticipated Performance
Globally, the Urban Cruiser BEV is offered with a choice of two battery configurations: a 49 kWh pack and a larger 61.1 kWh unit. A single electric motor drives the vehicle, delivering 172 horsepower and 192 Newton-meters of torque. This output situates the SUV firmly within the midsize electric vehicle segment. Mirroring the e Vitara, it is expected to achieve an approximate range of 550 kilometers on a full charge.
