Toyota is preparing to step into the Indian EV market with its first all-electric SUV โ the Urban Cruiser BEV. After being revealed globally, the SUV made its Indian appearance at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo earlier this year. Now, the launch is expected to happen towards the end of 2025 or early 2026.
This upcoming EV is being developed alongside the Maruti Suzuki eVitara, and both models will roll out from Suzukiโs Gujarat plant.
Battery Options & Performance
The Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV will be offered with two battery pack choices:
- 49 kWh pack โ Produces 144 hp, available only in front-wheel drive (FWD).
- 61 kWh pack โ Comes in both FWD and all-wheel drive (AWD) options.
- FWD version: 174 hp
- AWD version: 184 hp (extra 48 kW motor added on the rear axle)
Toyota claims this SUV can deliver over 500 km range on a single charge, and it supports DC fast charging for quick top-ups.
Dimensions & Cabin Space
The Urban Cruiser BEV will measure 4,285 mm in length and carry a 2,700 mm wheelbase. Thanks to its EV-dedicated platform, the floor design eliminates bulky crossmembers, which helps fit a larger battery without eating into passenger room. Toyota also says the cabin will feel spacious and more practical than its Maruti sibling.
Interior & Features
Inside, Toyota has designed a horizontal, low-mounted dashboard to give better forward visibility, while the slightly elevated seating ensures a commanding driving position.
