The Volkswagen Taigun, a popular midsize SUV in India, is getting ready for its first major update. Spotted testing under camouflage, the facelifted Taigun is expected to hit showrooms either by late 2025 or early 2026. This refresh aims to keep the SUV competitive with subtle design tweaks, upgraded features, and possibly some high-tech additions. Hereโ€™s everything we know about the upcoming Volkswagen Taigun facelift.

Subtle Exterior Updates

The test model of the Taigun facelift was covered in camouflage, but itโ€™s clear Volkswagen isnโ€™t planning a complete overhaul. The SUVโ€™s overall shape and size will stay the same, keeping its familiar sporty look. However, expect a refreshed front end with a new grille, updated bumper, and redesigned headlights to give it a sharper appearance. New paint colors and stylish alloy wheel designs are also likely to enhance its appeal. At the rear, the connected C-shaped LED tail lights, roof rails, and spoiler seem unchanged, suggesting Volkswagen is focusing on small but impactful updates.

Big Changes Inside the Cabin

While the exterior tweaks are mild, the interior is set for a bigger transformation. The Taigun facelift is expected to feature a revamped dashboard layout with modern touches. Volkswagen might add premium materials and new tech to elevate the cabin experience. A major highlight could be the introduction of a Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) package. This could include features like adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, lane departure alerts, and rear cross-traffic warnings, making the Taigun safer and smarter on the road.

Same Reliable Engines

Under the hood, the Taigun facelift will stick with its proven engine lineup. The 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, delivering 115 horsepower and 178 Nm of torque, will remain a solid choice for everyday driving. For those seeking more power, the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine, producing 150 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque, will also carry over. Transmission options will likely include the familiar six-speed manual, six-speed automatic, and seven-speed DSG gearbox. Thereโ€™s also a rumor that Volkswagen might introduce an eight-speed automatic later, but thatโ€™s not confirmed for the initial launch.

Parallel Updates with Skoda Kushaq

Interestingly, Volkswagenโ€™s sister brand, Skoda, is also testing a facelift for its Kushaq SUV. Since the Taigun and Kushaq share the same platform, both models are being updated side by side. This ensures both SUVs stay competitive in Indiaโ€™s crowded midsize SUV market. While the Taigun facelift is stealing the spotlight for now, a next-generation Taigun and a possible three-row version are still a few years away.

the Taigun Facelift Matters

Since its launch in September 2021, the Taigun has been a key player for Volkswagen in India, winning fans with its solid build, fun driving dynamics, and practical features. This facelift aims to build on that success by adding modern tech and a fresher look. With rivals like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos heating up the segment, the updated Taigun is set to offer a compelling mix of style, safety, and performance. Keep an eye out for its launch, as it promises to be a strong contender for family SUV buyers.
