Volkswagen has just announced that its new premium three-row SUV, the Tayron R-Line, will hit Indian showrooms between January and March 2026. This model will sit above the current Tiguan R-Line and mark Volkswagenโs push into the luxury seven-seater segment, becoming the brandโs flagship SUV in the country.
Exclusive Seven-Seater Layout for Indian Buyers
Unlike some global markets where different seating options exist, the Indian version of the Tayron R-Line will come only as a seven-seater. Built on the same platform as the latest Tiguan, it essentially serves as the longer, more practical sibling. In many countries abroad, the Tayron has taken over from the older Tiguan Allspace, and for India, it brings extra space and a more premium feel compared to the standard Tiguan.
Bigger Dimensions for Better Comfort and Utility
One of the biggest advantages of the Tayron is its size. At 4,770 mm long, itโs noticeably larger than the regular Tiguan sold in Europe and only about 100 mm shorter than the massive Touareg flagship. The wheelbase stretches to 2,791 mm, which translates into much more legroom and headroom in the second and third rows.
Even with all seven seats upright, you still get a practical 345 litres of boot space. Fold the third row down and that jumps to 885 litres โ plenty for weekend trips or daily family duties.

Sharp Looks with R-Line Sporty Touches
The Tayron follows Volkswagenโs current clean and modern SUV design language, sharing many styling cues with the longer Tayron L sold in China. Up front, you get slim LED headlights with built-in daytime running lights, a bold wide grille, strong bonnet lines, big alloy wheels, and sleek LED tail lights joined by a full-width light bar across the rear.
The R-Line package adds extra aggression with redesigned sportier bumpers, unique trim accents, and other distinctive details that make it stand out on the road.
Loaded Cabin with Modern Tech and Comfort
Inside, international versions feature a massive 15-inch central touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital driver display. Expect the Indian model to carry similar high-end equipment, including three-zone climate control, a panoramic glass roof, ventilated front seats, premium Harman Kardon sound system, multi-colour ambient lighting, and a full package of advanced safety and driver assistance features.
Powertrain and Drivetrain Options
The Tayron R-Line will most likely use Volkswagenโs proven 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that delivers 204 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque. It will be mated to a smooth 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Higher variants could also include the brandโs 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system for added grip and confidence.

Local Assembly for Competitive Pricing
Volkswagen plans to bring the Tayron to India as a completely knocked-down (CKD) kit and assemble it at their plant in Maharashtra. This strategy should help keep pricing reasonable while maintaining the premium positioning against rivals in the segment.
The Tayron R-Line looks set to offer Indian buyers a stylish, spacious, and tech-packed three-row SUV when it launches in the first quarter of 2026. Stay tuned for official pricing and exact specification confirmation closer to the launch date.
