Maruti Suzuki India Limited, the nation’s top automobile manufacturer, experienced a noticeable dip in its domestic sales for August 2025, with a total of 131,278 passenger vehicles sold in the Indian market. This figure reflects an 8.25% year-on-year (YOY) decline compared to the 143,075 units sold in August 2024. On a month-on-month (MOM) basis, sales dropped by 4.72% from the 137,776 units recorded in July 2025. Despite the domestic downturn, the company saw a remarkable surge in export figures, offering a silver lining to the overall performance.

Mini Segment

The mini segment, featuring popular models like the Alto and S-Presso, faced a significant sales slump in August 2025. Specific figures for this category were not highlighted, but the decline was notably steep compared to previous periods.

Compact Segment

The compact car category, which includes models such as the Baleno, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, and WagonR, performed relatively better, with a total of 59,597 units sold in August 2025. While this segment showed resilience, it still faced challenges in matching previous years’ numbers.

Utility Vehicle Segment

Maruti Suzuki’s utility vehicle lineup, comprising models like the Brezza, Ertiga, Fronx, Grand Vitara, XL6, Jimny, and Invicto, recorded sales of 54,043 units in August 2025. This marks a decline from the 62,684 units sold in August 2024, reflecting a broader trend of reduced demand in this category. The same downward trend was observed for the utility vehicle segment during the April-August 2025 period.

Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) Segment

The Super Carry, Maruti Suzuki’s sole offering in the light commercial vehicle segment, contributed to a total domestic sales figure (passenger vehicles + LCV) of 134,050 units in August 2025, down from 145,570 units in August 2024.

Sales to Other OEMs

Maruti Suzuki also supplied 10,095 units to other original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), primarily Toyota, in August 2025. When combining passenger vehicles, LCVs, and OEM sales, the total domestic sales reached 144,145 units, a decrease from the 155,779 units recorded in August 2024.

Export Performance

On the export front, Maruti Suzuki showcased impressive growth. In August 2025, the company exported 36,538 units to international markets, a significant rise compared to the 26,003 units shipped in January 2024. For the April-August 2025 period, exports totaled 165,255 units, a substantial increase from the 120,548 units exported during the same period in 2024. This robust export growth underscores Maruti Suzuki’s expanding global presence.

Upcoming Launch

Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to introduce a new midsize SUV, reportedly named the Victoris, in the Indian market. Scheduled for launch on September 3, 2025, this model will be available through Maruti Suzuki’s Arena dealership network. The Victoris is expected to share its platform, features, and engine options with the Grand Vitara, further strengthening the companyโ€™s SUV portfolio.

Conclusion

While Maruti Suzuki faced challenges in the domestic market with an overall sales decline in August 2025, the companyโ€™s strong export performance highlights its growing international demand. The upcoming launch of the Victoris SUV could provide a boost to domestic sales, potentially reversing the downward trend in the coming months. As Maruti Suzuki continues to innovate and expand, it remains a dominant force in the Indian automotive industry.
