Toyota is gearing up to introduce its first fully electric vehicle in the Indian market very soon. The company has already shared official teasers multiple times, confirming that the new model will make its debut on January 19, 2026. This electric SUV, named the Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV, marks Toyotaโs entry into the zero-emission segment in India and is the result of a strong partnership with Suzuki.
Design and Exterior Highlights
The Urban Cruiser BEV sports a modern and sharp front look with slim LED headlights and built-in daytime running lights (DRLs). A small โBEVโ badge on the front fender clearly shows where the charging port is located. When viewed from the side, the overall shape and styling are very similar to the upcoming Maruti Suzuki e Vitara. It rides on stylish 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels that add to its premium appeal.
Platform, Manufacturing, and Cost Advantages
This electric SUV will be produced at Suzukiโs manufacturing facility in Gujarat. It is built on the Heartect-e platform, which has been specially designed for electric vehicles. This shared architecture allows Toyota and Suzuki to use many common parts, including batteries, electronics, and other systems. Thanks to this collaboration, Toyota should be able to offer the Urban Cruiser BEV at a competitive price point in India.

Battery Options, Power, and Driving Range
Globally, the model comes with two battery pack choices: 49 kWh and 61.1 kWh. Both variants use a single front-mounted electric motor that delivers 172 horsepower and 192 Nm of torque. Buyers can expect a real-world driving range of around 550 kilometres on a full charge, making it suitable for both city commutes and longer highway trips.
Size and Dimensions
The Urban Cruiser BEV is a midsize electric SUV with the following measurements:
- Length: 4,285 mm
- Width: 1,800 mm
- Height: 1,640 mm
- Wheelbase: 2,700 mm
These dimensions provide a spacious cabin and good road presence while keeping the vehicle compact enough for Indian roads.
Interior Features and Technology
Inside, the SUV is expected to come loaded with modern conveniences. Toyotaโs T-Intouch connected car technology will allow owners to monitor the vehicle, check charging status, and control certain functions remotely through a smartphone app. Other likely features include:
- A large touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
- Fully digital driver display
- Automatic climate control
- Ventilated front seats
- Multiple safety and comfort additions

Market Positioning and Rivals
The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara is expected to reach showrooms slightly earlier, but the Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV โ which was first displayed at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 โ aims to attract a broad customer base. It will compete directly with popular electric SUVs such as the Tata Curvv EV, Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV, Mahindra XEV 9e, and others in the growing midsize electric SUV segment.
Toyotaโs strong brand reputation for reliability, combined with Suzukiโs manufacturing expertise, positions the Urban Cruiser BEV as a strong contender for buyers looking for a practical, feature-rich, and long-range electric SUV in India.
